Hey Cyber Poets,

Saturday Afternoon Poetry is undergoing a format change in 2009 to make each section of it a deeper experience. We will still meet EVERY Saturday in the backroom of the Santa Catalina Branch of the Pasadena Public Library on 999 E. Washington Blvd., but between 2pm and 4pm. Here's how it'll work:

January 3rd - EUP Writing Workshop
January 10th - Deep Critique
January 17th - Open Reading
January 24th - Field Trip, 12:30pm departure: Beyond Baroque Workshop
January 31st - Feature: Ruth Nolan and the Phantom Seed Poets

February 7th - Feature: M and Steve Williams
February 14th - EUP Writing Workshop
February 21st - Deep Critique
February 28th - Open Reading

March 7th - Feature: San Gabriel Valley Poetry Quarterly # 41
March 14th - EUP Writing Workshop
March 21st - Deep Critique
March 28th - Open Reading

April 4th - Field Trip, 1:30pm departure: Poetry & Cookies in Altadena Library
April 11th - EUP Writing Workshop
April 18th - Deep Critique
April 25th - Open Reading

All events remain FREE, as always.

Hey Cyber Poets,

The publishing party for the poets being published in the 2009 San Gabriel Valley Poetry Calendar will be on Saturday, December 27th, 2008 between 2pm and 4pm in the backroom of the Santa Catalina Branch of the Pasadena Public Library on 999 E. Washington Blvd.

Here is a list of the poets:

Poets in attendance will receive a free copy of the calendar. Copies will also be available of the full-color digest-sized cardstock-covered 2009 calendar for just $5 each. Hey CyberPoets,

Here's the schedule of featured poets for Saturday Afternoon Poetry during December in the backroom of the Santa Catalina Branch of the Pasadena Public Library on 999 E. Washington Blvd.

December 13th - Publication party for San Gabriel Valley Poetry Quarterly #40, Fall 2008 Issue
December 20th - Holiday Poetry Slam. $5 donation per poet to participate. Winner-takes-all! Non-participants judge.
December 27th - Publication Party for the 2009 San Gabriel Valley Poetry Calendar. Please send up to three poems of no more than 30 lines each (including stanza breaks) in the body of an email message by December 13th to: kingfisher1031@charter.net  

We meet EVERY SATURDAY for three gas-saving events (except on FIELD TRIP days):

1:30 to 2:30pm - Emerging Urban Poets writing workshop
2:45 to 3:45pm - Pure Poetry critique workshop
4:00 to 5:00pm - Saturday Afternoon Poetry (featured poet(s) + open reading)

Attend any one, two, or three as you wish. It's always FREE!

On Saturday, May 31st, Saturday Afternoon Poetry was in the backyard of Lindy Hill. Here's a photo:





I was so inspired by Mary Nelson's readings of Mary Oliver poems that I went out and bought Oliver's New and Selected Poems, Volume Two immediately after the party.
